Affiliate Disclosure
How we earn money — and why it doesn't change what we recommend.
Age In Place UK is reader-supported. When you click a link and make a purchase, we may earn a small commission — at no extra cost to you. This helps us keep the site free and independent.
What Is an Affiliate Link?
Some of the links on this website are affiliate links. This means that if you click the link and go on to buy a product or service, we earn a small commission from the retailer or provider. The price you pay is exactly the same — the commission comes from the retailer's marketing budget, not from your pocket.
Affiliate links are clearly used on product review pages and comparison articles. You will often see a button that says "Check Price" or "Get [Product Name]" — these are affiliate links.
Which Programmes Do We Use?
We currently participate in the following affiliate programmes:
- Amazon Associates UK — for products sold on Amazon.co.uk, including tablets, phones, and smart home devices
- AWIN network — for specialist UK care technology providers including Taking Care personal alarms, Oysta GPS trackers, and Canary Care activity monitors
We only apply to affiliate programmes for products and services we have independently researched and would genuinely recommend to a family member.
Does Earning Commission Affect Our Reviews?
No. Our editorial process is independent of our commercial relationships. We do not accept payment for positive reviews, and we do not rank products higher because they pay a higher commission rate.
In practice, this means:
- We include honest pros and cons in every review, including significant downsides
- We recommend products from providers who do not have an affiliate programme if they are genuinely the best option for readers
- Commission rates are never a factor in our star ratings or verdicts
- We update reviews when products change, even if this means downgrading a previously recommended product
How We Research and Test
Age In Place UK was built by people who have experienced the challenge of helping an elderly relative stay safe and independent at home. Our research process includes:
- Detailed analysis of product specifications and independent customer reviews
- Comparison of pricing, contract terms, and cancellation policies
- Assessment of response centre quality and UK coverage
- Consideration of ease of use for both the older person and their family
Where we have not personally tested a product, we make this clear in the review and rely on verified customer feedback and publicly available technical information.
UK Legal Requirements
Under the UK Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008 and guidelines from the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), we are required to clearly disclose when content contains affiliate links or when we have a commercial relationship with a brand.
We comply with these regulations by:
- Displaying this disclosure page, linked in the footer of every page on this site
- Including a short disclosure notice at the top of articles that contain affiliate links
- Never presenting paid content as independent editorial without clear labelling
For more information on affiliate marketing and consumer rights in the UK, visit the Competition and Markets Authority website.
